Hello! My name is Mrs. Cassie Curtis. I found my love of teaching in 2015, just four weeks after having my youngest child. I applied to be a teacher's assistant. I thought I was going to be grading papers and doing secretarial duties. To my surprise, I was put into the role of a para-educator in a self-contained autism classroom in a middle school. I quickly fell in love with the work and the students and never looked back.
I came to understand that EVERY child is capable of doing hard things. They just need to believe in themselves. Supporting students' journey to grow and find independence has changed my life. I graduated from Western Governors University with my bachelor's in elementary and special education on March 10, 2022 (fun fact: that is exactly 12 years to the day after I was discharged from the US Army). I have come to love special education because of the determination and growth I see in my students. I believe that as long as students are willing to try, they can succeed. It is my honor and privilege to be with them every step of the way.
I have been married to my husband for 16 years. We have two beautiful children. I love spending time with my family outside with our two very energetic dogs. We love to go camping, paddle boarding, hiking, and anything that gets us out into the wild. In my downtime, I love to read, write, and cook. I don’t mind the occasional nap with my two cats.
I am very excited to be a part of the Excelsior Academy family and to be teaching again this year!
