Hi, my name is Laura Skousen. Throughout my life I have moved around often, but I am now looking forward to developing some roots here in Stansbury Park.
I am a graduate of the University of Utah with a Masters in Education as well as a BS in Psychology and a BA in English. I have worn many hats over the years, including secretary for law professors, editorial assistant for the Utah Law Review, veterinarian assistant, and, my favorite, high school English teacher where I taught mostly juniors and seniors in the AP Language and Composition classes. I enjoyed watching my students develop their own voices and writing styles as they wrote, edited, revised, and revised again and again. They were always eager to take my advice and run with it.
Currently, I stay at home with my two beautiful, but spunky and funny daughters. When we aren’t working in the yard installing pavers or garden beds, we enjoy reading, biking, kayaking and traveling as a family. We hope to take our girls on their first trip to Europe very soon. We love learning about other people and immersing ourselves in different cultures.
I am excited to serve as a member of the Board. I hope to be someone who students, teachers, and parents of Excelsior can turn to for support and encouragement.
